Plastering consists usually of 2 'sets' or coats, applied in quick succession during the same session. The second coat is smoothed as it hardens, to give a smooth finish like to eggshell. The time taken to dry varies according to the underlying surface, but will usually take a number of days. During the drying process the wall will appear darker in the areas that still retain some moisture. Once dry and pale, it's ready for decorating.

Pebble dashing

Is applied in two phases. Initially a render base coat is

applied, after which a 2nd coat is applied. While the

2nd coat is still wet the pea-shingle is embedded within it.

It protects the underlying brickwork from weathering,

and can be useful to cover existing cracks and

Imperfections.

Rendering

Applying a coat or more of sand and cement is called

rendering. The composition of the render is usually made of

sand and cement and can also be mixed with small stones.

Rendering has to be allowed to dry before it can be painted.
